Why Didn’t God Help The Jews During The Holocaust?
I have heard it said by many Jewish people “where was God
when 6 million Jews were killed during the holocaust?” Why did God turn his
back on His own people? Why would God who performed many miracles in the days
of old suddenly just stop helping His people? This is the question I am going
to attempt to answer using the Bible as my guide.
I believe to accurately answer this question we will have to
go back in time to see when the last time it was that God was communicating
with His people.
There’s one question we have to answer before we can go on.
Was Jesus of Nazareth the Messiah or a fraud? I know that most of the Jewish
people today are still looking for their Messiah to arrive. I believe the Jewish
religious leaders owe the Jewish people one big apology. In the book of Daniel, Daniel the prophet
gave the exact time, place and that the Messiah would be riding on a donkey’s
colt into Jerusalem. That time was April 6th, 32 AD. All the Jewish
leaders had to do was to count the days on their calendar and everybody would
have known the exact time their Messiah was due. It doesn’t make any sense that
the Jewish people are still waiting for their Messiah today.
If their Messiah shows up today it would mean that their
book of Daniel is wrong. And if their
book of Daniel is wrong then what other books in their Bible are wrong also. The Bible is either the word of God or it is not. It can’t be both!
Even Jesus mentioned this in Luke 19:43-44 that the temple
of God was to be leveled to the ground because the people didn’t know the time
of their visitation, referring to when their Messiah was due to arrive. “For days will
come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround
you and close you in on every side, and level you, and your children within you, to
the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your
visitation.” This occurred in 70 AD by the Romans.
I have a hard time understanding exactly what
was happening at that time. Here a man comes on the scene claiming to be the
Son of God and performing many signs and miracles that can’t even be duplicated
today. If somebody today claimed to be the Son of God and raised three people
from the dead, gave sight to blind people from birth, (we still can’t do that
today), cured leprosy, (we still can’t cure leprosy even today), went into
villages and cured all the sick people, walked on water, had authority over the
elements, transformed Himself into a being of light and did many other miracles
too numerous to mention, What exactly was the Jewish religious leaders waiting
for?
I believe at that time most people who witnessed
Jesus and the miracles that He did believed in Him. In John 7:31 we read, “And many of the people believed in Him,
and said, “When the Christ comes, will He do more signs than these which this Man has done?”
I hold the religious leader responsible because
at the time of Jesus the people spoke Aramaic and all the religious documents
at that time was written in Hebrew. A language only the Pharisee’s and Sadducee’s
knew. The common man had to depend on the religious leaders for their knowledge
of the scriptures.
It appears that the Jewish religious leader’s knowledge of
the scriptures was minimal at best. We can read in every book of the Old
Testament passages which talk about the Messiah. Jesus fulfilled every Old
Testament prophecy concerning Him. The chances of another man coming on the
scene and fulfilling all the Old Testament prophesies are impossible. There are
many reasons why this is so. The time table in the book of Daniel won’t match
also the Jews have lost all their genealogy records and can’t prove what blood
line they are from and the Messiah is to come from the blood line of King
David.
Let’s take a quick look at just a few Old Testament
prophesies concerning the Messiah to see what we would think the chances are of
a new Messiah coming on the scene today to fulfill just two out of the more
than three hundred Old Testament prophesies. The first prophesy we are going to
look at is found in the book of Psalms chapter 22 verses 6- 8. “But I am a worm, and no man; A
reproach of men, and despised by the people. All those
who see Me ridicule Me; They shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, “He trusted in the Lord, let Him rescue Him; Let Him deliver Him, since He
delights in Him!”
The next prophesy is found in Psalms chapter 22 verses 16-18.
“For dogs have
surrounded Me; The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me. They pierced My hands and My feet;I
can count all My bones. They look and stare at Me.They
divide My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots.
Do you see my
point? If a new Messiah comes on the scene today he would still have to fulfill
all of the Old Testament prophesies concerning the Messiah. I can’t imagine
that any government today would bring back crucifixion as a form of punishment.
If they did people would still have to surround his cross and say “He trusted
in the Lord, let Him rescue Him,” and cast lots for His clothing.
Any time we lose contact with God it’s not because God moved
away from us. It’s because we moved away from God. I believed the Jewish people
did the same thing concerning God. How did the Jewish people move? When they
rejected Christ they rejected God. God didn’t turn His back on the Jewish people;
the Jewish people turned their backs on God. God sent His Son to deliver the
Jewish people from the law that they couldn’t keep. Nobody could.
We read in the epistle of John
2:23 “Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who
acknowledges the Son has the Father also.” It appears that the prayers of the
Jewish people to God the Father are falling on deaf ears. Jesus says in John
14:6 “I am the way, the truth,
and the life. No one comes to the Father except
through Me. Jesus should have added “No
Exceptions”. Not even the Jewish people
can talk to the Father unless they go through Jesus their Messiah.
The Jews by denying Jesus as their Messiah are also denying God the Father who
sent Him. In 2 Timothy 2:12 we read “If we endure, we
shall also reign with Him. If we denyHim, He also will deny us.”
Ever since the Jews
rejected Jesus at the cross the Jews have been in a state of condemnation. The
Bible says that the only unpardonable sin is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit
which is the rejection of Jesus the Messiah whom the Father has sent. In the
Old Testament everything is prophesied concerning the Messiah’s birth, life,
rejection, crucifixion and power. Jesus of Nazareth fulfilled every prophesy
concerning the Messiah.
Why are the Jews having such a
hard time accepting Jesus as their Messiah? The Bible has many verses about
this subject. In 2 Corinthians 3:14-16, we read “But
their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains
unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken
away in Christ. But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. Nevertheless when
one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.”
It is prophesied in the New Testament that
during the time of “Jacob’s trouble” (the great tribulation) the last seven
years of time before the millennium starts that the Jewish people will finally have
the veil lifted from their eyes and will finally recognize Jesus as their
Messiah.In Zechariah
12:10 we read, “And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of
Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, theywill mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for
a firstborn.
All this time the
blame has been put on God for turning His back on His people when in reality
the Jewish People for the most part have turned their backs on their God. The
solution seems simple all the Jewish people have to do is accept Jesus as their
Messiah, God will then at that time lift the veil from their eyes and all will
be right with God again.
